Royal Cromer is an 18 hole cliff-top coastal course in North Norfolk. Mark Heveran has been Course Manager at the Club since he joined in September 2010. In October 2014 Mark and his team took delivery of the UK’s first Redexim Double Disc 1430 Overseeder from Charterhouse.
Originally launched in a 2.2M width format it was quickly followed, with much acclaim, by a 1.8M width machine at BTME 2014. The DD1430, a 1.4m wide unit, made its debut at BTME 2015. The concept of the Double Disc range is to deliver seed into the soil via two rows of discs, in slits 3cm apart, to ensure maximum germination. They bury the seed up to 20mm (3/4”) deep in the ground, safely away from the weather and the beaks of hungry birds to ensure maximum germination. A massive 230 litre hopper capacity completes the 1430’s specification.
Mark, “The seeder arrived quite late in the year but we still managed to get out and do all the fairways with it. This summer, we will aim to get out and do the fairways twice and the greens 5 or 6 times. The beauty of the 30mm spacing is the recovery factor – the surface recovers quickly, leaving a lovely clean finish meaning there is no disturbance to the golfers.”
The whole range comes complete with 3 point linkage as standard but a new trailed wheel kit is available as an option. Royal Cromer was not only the first club to have the Double Disc 1430 Overseeder, but also the first to have it attached with the wheel kit option. “The wheel kit gives us easy transportation of the unit around the site as well as providing the extra weight required to help the machine pierce through our hard ground.”
